We reached a milestone of sorts this week at The Window Company (Contracts) when we were finally back at work on all of our window and door replacement projects for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Quite appropriate perhaps that it happened in the week that marked the first anniversary of lockdown in March 2020. Like every business in our sector, we had to stop work and withdraw from all of our projects at that point, and then we spent the next few weeks implementing the new Covid secure working practices which have become a fact of life ever since.

We were quick to restart on new build projects, in line with the guidance we had from the government that it was safe to work outside, but, where we were working in people’s homes, and particularly with vulnerable residents, the return has understandably been much slower and more sporadic.

However, over the past year, we have gradually started fitting again on ongoing contracts for the likes of Moat Housing, and this week we have also been back on site for Basildon Council via Morgan Sindall.

Of course, our teams are adhering strictly to all the rules around working in people’s homes and we are rigorous in checking and double checking that residents are safe and comfortable when we visit. It has been a long road to get here, but I think we can finally glimpse a return to something which looks much more like normal.
