HEALTH AND SAFETY AT THE HEART OF THE BUSINESS

HEALTH AND SAFETY AT THE HEART OF THE BUSINESS

The Window Company (Contracts) is ending 2021 on a high, with a second prestigious award nomination.

Just a couple of weeks after it was named as a finalist in the Installer of the Year category at the glass and glazing industry’s G-Awards, it has also been shortlisted by the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) for its Health and Safety Award.

This was the first time that the specialist commercial installer had entered the BWF Awards but, after a year in which it achieved ISO45001:2018 accreditation for its commitment to improving employee safety and landed a Silver Award in RoSPA’s internationally recognised Awards’ programme, the timing was perfect.

Chairman David Thornton commented: “Keeping our team, our customers and our onsite colleagues safe has been an overriding priority since the start of the pandemic and, like so many businesses, we put in place strict protocols directly in response to Covid-19.

“However, good health and safety has always been at the heart of our culture. It helps in the recruitment and retention of fitters and gives reassurance to residents when we are working in their homes.

“One of the reasons why we were shortlisted is the influence that our staff themselves have on shaping our policies and procedures. We have a Fitters’ Health and Safety Forum, for instance, where teams can report and monitor any health and safety concerns and also make suggestions as to how we could improve.

“Our new mobile app, which allows lead fitters to carry out and upload Point of Work Risk Assessments on their smartphones at the start of every installation, came directly from our fitting teams.”

Both the G-Awards and the BWF Awards take place on the same night at the end of November, so fingers are firmly crossed for a double celebration.
