Specialist commercial installer The Window Company (Contracts) has achieved PAS2030 accreditation, which is a requirement for installing windows and doors funded by any of the government’s energy efficiency schemes targeting retrofit projects. With only around 5% of UK window and door installers estimated to hold PAS2030, the company has joined a fairly exclusive club.

The Window Company (Contracts) is ending 2021 on a high, with a second prestigious award nomination.

Just a couple of weeks after it was named as a finalist in the Installer of the Year category at the glass and glazing industry’s G-Awards, it has also been shortlisted by the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) for its Health and Safety Award.

A couple of months ago I wrote a commentary on the perilous skills shortage facing this industry and appealing to employers to invest more in training so that we can upskill our collective workforce. I had lots of support from other companies facing the same issues as The Window Company (Contracts) when it comes to recruiting enough skilled fitters to work on both commercial and domestic contracts.

We obviously need to attract talent into the industry – particularly given our ageing workforce and the number of skilled migrants who have returned home either because of Brexit or the pandemic

The Window Company (Contracts)’ mission for continuous improvement has just had another boost with the launch of a brand-new app which allows fitting teams to provide live project updates from site.

The commercial window and door specialist has made a significant R&D investment in a bespoke mobile solution linked directly to its project database.

Fitters on site simply log into the app to record and log their Point of Work Risk Assessments (POWRA) and installation checklists. They can also take and submit before and after photos of every job and record any snagging issues directly from the app.

Ray Baty is bringing more than thirty years’ contract management experience to his new role at leading commercial installer The Window Company (Contracts).

He joins the expanding company as a Contracts Manager, working on a range of window and door replacement projects for social housing providers across London and the South East.

The skills shortage might have slipped down the agenda a bit over recent months while the industry has been tackling what is understandably the more pressing issue of product and component shortages, but that certainly doesn’t mean it has gone away.

A crisis which was already looming as the 50-somethings which make up so much of this industry look ahead to their retirements, has been made much worse by the departure of so many skilled European migrants during the pandemic.

Having completed window replacement, roofing and roofline works at the Hamlyn Court retirement complex in Kent, the team from The Window Company (Contracts) presented the residents with a new greenhouse and garden centre vouchers to thank them for their support and cooperation during the project.

Fitters from the company’s installation team assembled the greenhouse in the grounds of the complex in Dunton Green, near Sevenoaks to replace an older, disused one and give residents a new space in which to garden together.
